Unused Dowry Linen - Double Bedspread, Throw or Counterpane
A good size for today’s larger sized beds.
Completely all hand made, in 1897 from homespun rustic linen to the Bobbin lace inserts and panels intricately and perfectly worked.
The bedspread is a glorious oatmeal cream, slubby and beautifully soft, but it is quite heavy.
It is made up of individual panels of linen and hand made linen Bobbin lace, with a deep lozenge themed scalloped bobbin lace edge.
This exquisite item was given as part of a Brides Dowry It was placed in a linen trunk, where it remained unused and transferred, in 1997 after a professional clean, to a temperature controlled linen and fabric store.
It has now received a professional hand laundering with a slight glazing and is ready to use.
This item of antique linen is part of my very own heirloom collection, which I’m thinning down, and comes with provenance as to its history. Created by my Spanish Italian relatives from fabulous North Yorkshire fabrics.
