Antique Victorian 1860s Ladies White Silk Lace Bertha Capelet ornate and heavily embellished with raised linen white work and edged with a deep and heavily flounced Silk net, with cut work depicting a white flower, probably a stylised rose of Yorkshire. This edging has been attached the the capes edges with a silk double herringbone stitch, which is complete and without breaks.

Modelled on a size 16 mannequin.
The cape falls in a deep V at the back, this style is also to the front, it fastens with one small pearl button.
The cape is 14" deep at the back. The inner placket, all the way around is 54" in length.
The item was made in approximately 1885 as a Dowry item, although it wouldn't have been worn for the wedding, it's more of a summer cape for promenading in, or worn as an summer evening Capelet, it's remained stored since the late 1880s.
This is a wonderful and exquisite item, when most ladies clothing was darker and plain, this must have drawn admiring glances.
The item in this listing is from my own heirloom collection, it is not from a clothing warehouse, fabric reclamation unit or auction, therefore I am able to confirm authenticity and provenance of each item.
