Antique Pre 1880s Black Silk Canton Manton De Manila Piano Shawl.
Hand Embroidered in the most exquisite Powder pink and emerald Silk Thread.
The shawl has been within a private collection and was then placed with a museum in about 1960s. This is a very traditional Shawl, and not so much embellished as the ornate Shawls worn on special occasions, this may have been an everyday item.
Measurements are as follows;
The silk embroidered panel is;
36" x 37.5"
The silk fringe is 22.5" long and is hand knotted to the silk.
The shawl is in the most stunning antique condition given it's at least 135 years old.
The fabric has been fully checked for rot and is clear of age related damage and or thinning but there is one 2.5cm tear to the silk.
